Are you confused by SEO? When you see those 3 letters, does your brain cloud over into a lavender haze?
But you need SEO. So, please have this cheat sheet download. From me to you.
I’m sorry to hear that SEO confounds you. I want you to know that I was once like you. I mean, EXACTLY like you. Maybe even worse. No only resisting search engine optimization, but BLATANTLY IGNORING all the great advice I received from experts on the topic! After all, copywriters are trained to be CREATIVE. But SEO is BORING! Right?
But then I realized that SEO is EVERYTHING.
What is SEO?
SEO stands for search engine optimization. It’s a process of:
- Researching the words that warm-to-hot prospects would type into a search engine while hunting the web for what you offer
- Adding those words to your website in various places
A bit more about that…
Search engine optimization involves the following steps:
- Research and keep a list of the different keyword combinations that web searchers might use to find you
- Create pages and posts that target those keyword phrases in the title and first paragraph.
- For each page or post, be sure to tuck variations of your targeted keyword phrase into each secret spot where SEO keywords go, to help you get found by web surfers and searchers.
- Set up your pages and posts for lead capture. Once you have your warm to hot future customers on your list, you’ll be able to connect with them via future messages. And when they’re ready, they might even buy from you!
The sooner you search engine optimize your site, the sooner you’ll show up on Google and other search engines

Fun Fact: Each Page of Your Website Can Target a Unique Phrase and Get Ranked Independently for That Phrase
Think of search engine optimizing your site as each PAGE having the power to rank for a specific phrase of your choosing.
That page gets categorized in Google’s hierarchy of search results INDEPENDENTLY of how other pages of your site perform.
Suppose you’re working on SEO for your real estate website focused on First Time Home Buyers. You’ve targeted the phrase “First-Time Home Buyer Must-Know Checklist” on a single page.
This page could outrank many other pages of your site that aren’t optimized.
The non-SEO optimized pages might still be informative, content-loaded and well-written, sure.
But any page where you haven’t tuned up the SEO will be much less likely found by anyone using Google or other search engines to research first time home buying.
